Pink sapphire and diamond necklace, circa 1880

Description

Of stylised bow and foliate design, set with cushion-shaped and single-cut diamonds, the front set with a fringe of knife-edge bars and an oval pink sapphire, length approximately 425mm, Austro Hungarian assay and maker's marks.

Condition

Metal tested as gold and silver. Pink sapphire measuring approximately 12.2 x 9.10mm, the depth is not possible to gauge accurately. Minor typical crystal inclusions visible under close inspection, few nicks. Diamonds estimated to weigh approximately 25.00 - 28.00 carats, on average, G-J, VS-SI, one small diamond deficient but not noticeable when worn. A few solder marks to the back of the pendant, signs of normal use to the metal commensurate with age and wear. Well preserved and in good condition.
