Condition

This canvas has been lined but an old inscription has been written on the reverse of the lining which refers to the painting itself but which may well exist on the reverse of the original canvas. The paint layer has been cleaned fairly recently and could be hung as is. In the foreground there is a restoration in the wall to the left of the figures, another couple of restorations in the base of the two palm trees and in the street beneath the gate in the lower left. In the lower sky what appears to be either an original join or a pencil line has begun to show through and has been retouched horizontally through the middle of the painting. This restoration is not particularly effective and could be improved. Other than this there is a restoration in the sky beneath the pine tree on the left and another in the upper center sky, and the two slightly darker patches in the upper right sky are also restorations what have not been well applied. The restoration does not address any notable paint losses or issues but their accuracy could be called into question.
