Catalogue Note

Giuliano used the winged motif in many jewellery designs and it was very popular during the 19th Century amongst other jewellers.  The image of the 'winged globe' was considered a symbol of protection in Ancient Egypt and might be found placed above a doorway or tomb it was believed to prevent evil from entering.
