- SAPPHIRE AND 22 CARAT GOLD
Collet-set with a polished sapphire to a swivel setting and stirrup shaped band, size M½, decorated pouch.
Condition
Stamped 22ct for 22 carat gold. Indistinctly stamped GP possibly for Gem Palace in Jaipur, India a renowned jewellers. Sapphire measuring approximately 19.5 x 14.0 x 11.85mm, typical inclusions visible with magnification and to the naked eye, surface reaching fractures. Heavy ring weighing approximately 23.9 grams. Scratches and indentations to mount consistent with wear. In good condition.

Inspired by Antiquity this design of ring was used often in Roman jewels to display hardstone intaglios or seals of family emblems, there may have been an image on each side of the disc, the swivelling motion allowing either side to be viewed.
