Condition

Executed on cream wove paper. Taped to window mat along all edges on verso. Verso show minor darkening of natural fibers in the sheet. Titled and dated by artist on verso. Surface is clean and colors are bright and fresh. Work is in very good condition.

Catalogue Note

The authors of the artist's catalogue raisonné write of the present work: "This subject was first realized in cat. 764, a painting of 1951, and three more oil versions followed in 1952. It remained in Magritte's possession until his death, when it passed to his widow" (David Sylvester, op. cit., p. 138)
