Description

  • A GOLD AND ENAMEL VERGE WATCHCIRCA 1795 NO 16305
  • diameter 50 mm
• gilt verge movement, balance bridge pierced and engraved with scrolls • white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, hands lacking • gold case, glazed back with polychrome enamel pastoral scene inhabited by a couple with rabbits and sheep, gold and white enamel floral and foliate scrolls above • dial and movement signed

Condition

The watch is currently not running, but the movement appears to be complete. The hands and the crystal are missing. It will probably require an overhaul. There are some small hairlines in an arc from the edge below 6 o'clock on the dial and some enamel loss to the band. The enamel to the case overall is good, however there is a small area of restoration on the ground and to the kneeling portion of the lady's leg, and some minor losses to the enamel on the border. Otherwise, finely painted.
