Condition
Overall in very good condition. This lamp is being consigned by descendants of the original owners (see provenance in catalogue description) and the shade, base and finial by all accounts have originated together. The shade with approximately 15-18 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout, and with surface soiling along some of the recessed contours of the shade leading and reticulated bronze dragonfly wings. The rare “Cat Tail Pond Lily” base is in excellent condition, displaying exceptionally fine casting and a deep rich russet brown and green patina. The base with light and minor rubbing to the patina on the high points of the design and minor surface soiling to the recessed contours consistent with age and gentle use. There are a few very small and minor areas of patina loss to the perimeter edges of the Cat Tails on the base standard. The lamp retains its original oil canister with period sockets and switches. With the original drop finial showing minimal gentle wear. The shade and base present beautifully together as a unit, representing the ideal pairing for this model. The shade displays a strong aquatic color palette articulated in rippled glass, and the base is a beautiful example of this rare design.
