Condition
The catalogue illustration is less red and more yellow than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has been relined in the past but is now loose and has lost its bounce. The catalogue illustration conveys a good impression of the condition of the painting, though it does not show that the impasto is well preserved in areas. The painting is dirty and under a yellowed varnish. The most notable damage is the tear of 20 by 30 cm at centre, as well as a tear and loss centre right and a hole lower centre. Other scattered losses are present throughout. Stretcher marks can be made out along the edges, and discoloured retouchings are visible along the right, lower and upper edges. Scattered retouchings have discoloured and can be made out in the catalogue illustration. Inspection under UV light does not reveal further restoration or damage.
Offered in a carved wooden frame (painted in tortoise shell style) which is structurally sound but with minor losses.
