Description

  • 18 karat gold, amethyst, ruby, necklace
Composed of carved amethyst beads measuring approximately 32.0 to 17.0 mm., accented by fluted gold beads and cabochon rubies, length 16 inches, together with 4 amethyst beads and 4 fluted gold beads.

Condition

In good general condition with intentional irregularities in-keeping with the ethnographic style of the necklace. Numerous small chips to the amethyst beads with one more noticeable chip (approximately the size of an eraser head) to the 5th bead from the female end of the clasp. The amethysts are medium purple and typically included. The rubies are a lively purplish pinkish red and decorative in quality. The fluted beads appear to be thin sheets of high-karat gold hand-hammered onto a resin base. The additional amethyst beads are approximately 21.2 to 18.9 mm; the additional fluted gold beads are approximately 12.2 mm.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
