the top of elliptical form with a gilt-bronze leaf cast verde antico border enclosing a square panel depicting two birds on a cherry branch within a roundel, the spandrels in Nero Antico di Aquitania marble within an alabaster border the white marble demi-lune ends inlaid with three star motifs, the later giltwood base in the form of a leaf carved baluster vase on a square base and rectangular plinth with concave-fronted sides each applied with a giltwood star motif

Condition

In overall good conserved condition. Top: Colour of table top slightly darker and the gilding is less greenish more golden and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. The gilt-bronze border is slightly dirty and would benefit from a light clean according to taste and is lifting slightly on one side, but this can easily be secured. There are a couple of slight gaps in the border. Old minor marks, chips and scratches to the marble and there is a minor, lighter coloured patch to the curved right side border, but this is hardly noticeable. Some other minor restorations to verde antico border on the top, with some miniscule areas of infill. The detail and choice of stones on central panel on top is most attractive. There are some old restored cracks near the star motif on the top left side of the central panel, as visible from photograph. Base: The wooden support beneath the top is a later replacement. The gilding on the base is slightly worn and dirty and there are minor chips to the base and a small section of moulding missing on top of the stretcher. There is a crack in the urn but this is not too noticeable.
