Catalogue Note

A study for Gill's stone sculpture, The Rower, made in October 1912 and now in a private collection, London.  Although the title suggests that the figure should be orientated in a different way, Gill had the sculpture professionally photographed with the model touching her toes, as in the present sheet, as well as seated: implying that it could be posed however the viewer wished.  For further information see J.
