Condition
General surface abrasions and flaking lacquer. The lid: implement in her upraised right hand and small finger lacking; top of baton in her proper left hand lacking. The interior of the lid has a later metal plate. The base: general surface abrasions, minor casting flaws. Good brown patina.

Catalogue Note
The inscription, which translated means I shall not altogether die, is from Horace's Odes (book III, poem XXX). The figure of Fame, with her trumpet, and the putti flanking her are all typically Venetian in figural style and facial type.
