Catalogue Note
This sculpture was inspired by a character in Louis Hémons novel Maria Chapdelaine, A Story of French Canada. It is a very introspective portrait of a typical French Canadian farm girl who has suffered the loss of her beloved fiancé.
The foundry stamp indicates it was cast prior to 1943.
