Catalogue Note

Hodgson was a recent graduate of the Ontario College of Art and one of the youngest members when he joined the avantgarde group of artists, "Painters Eleven".  He was not at that time entirely aware of what abstraction was or could be, but like the others, knew that they were on the cusp of some major breakthrough.  He excelled in devising new ways to express his creativity usually with spontaneous energy.
