Catalogue Note
The range of Fafard's sculpture ranges from abstract metal pieces very early in his career, to ceramic and bronze sculptures of domestic animals, politicians, artists, friends, and family members, and to laser-cut steel works that create silhouettes of animals, in recent years.
This portrait of his cousin Hector, who served in World War II, is a personal and affecting one. Fafard has been able, throughout his career, to hone in on intimate expressions of both animals and humans. This unorthodox remembrance of a close family member is a testament to Fafard's sensibility and sincerity.
