in two sections, incorporating Flemish vertical border tapestry fragments, Brussels, woven with allegorical figures and small vignettes within medallions, all set in architectural style surround incorporating strapwork; with repairs and some 19th century reweaving

Condition

The frame is in good overall condition with only minor chips and wear to the gilding. Originally the two sections were joined with hinges, the sights of these hinges have been filled in and gilded over. The back of each panel is lined with modern olive green raw silk, in good condition. The tapestry fragment panels has sections of later 19th century woven border detailing added to sides at lower sections and tops of each section. The far left and far right panels have horizontal joines and repairs where sections joined, visible for example on both these panels in the lower sections above the eagle and the horses, where sides elements of their design have been cut round and applied over the later side border sections. to the third panel from the left there is a vertical section of green and cream narrow banding to the top left of the panel, with the joining stiches visible. There are horizontal lines of repair/joins in these two sides panels, in the area underneath the allegorical figures feet, and in the left panel, through the waist area of the female allegorical figures. Noticeable on close inspection. Does not effect the overall coherence of design. Some minor small splits and minor repairs to all panels, and particularly within the light silk areas, commensurate with age. Decorative screen panels.
