possibly Strasbourg, Paul Hannong period, each naturalistically modelled as a bunch of blue grapes resting between vine leaves.
Provenance
Sold, Sotheby's, Zurich, November 24, 1992, lot 132
Condition
Covers: an approximate 1-in. section along the back edge of the leaf of one is restored; the other has several minor restored chips to the edge of the leaf and there is an approximate 2 X 1/2-in. restored area to the leaf edge on one side and another 2 x 1/4-in. similarly restored area along the edge on the opposite side. The covers themselves are ok.
Bases: both stem handles have some restored breaks. One leaf base has several large restored breaks along one side; the other has a small, 1-in., restored area to the edge of the leaf near the tip and a chip to one of the serrated tips with a related 1/2 x 1/4-in. chip to the glaze on the upper surface of the leaf.
The restored damage is confined to the applied leaves and stems - the covers and bases are in generally good condition.
