Description

the rectangular top with re-entrant corners and now lined with a 20th century needlework panel depicting playing cards, playing pieces, and flowers within a crossbanded border, the ends fitted with frieze drawers mounted with later handles, raised on lapet-carved cabriole legs ending in pad feet, formerly fitted on casters.

Condition
Overall good restored condition; the needlework inset top later and with some restoration and reworking to the sides; the cross-banding with a replaced inpainted section to the front left corner; the cross-banding to the opposite long side with four inpainted and resorted sections to veneer; the molded edges with some patches; two small rectangular patches to the frieze of one long side (front in catalogue illustration); the opposite long side with a large triangular veneer replacement to the left side and with old inpainted cracks and patches to the lower edge with inpainting and graining; age crack to frieze above back right leg; drawer pulls and keyhole escutcheons later; lock plates replaced; drawer fronts now with small patches where previous hardware was fitted and with slight bowing; the underside of the top with a large separated age crack running the length of the top and with some later blocks; the apron of veneer beneath right side drawer replaced; some patches to apron beneath left side drawer; six brackets to legs replaced; front right leg with a hairline age crack and with an inpainted crack to the foot; back right leg with a chip to lappet carving, hairline age crack to center and with a small circular patch at knot and with an inpainted crack to the foot; back left leg with a hairline age crack to the center and a replaced section to the foot; overall with some old marks, scratches and chips.
