Catalogue Note

A dish of this model serving as the stand for a carp is illustrated by F. Severn Mackenna, Chelsea Porcelain, The Red Anchor Wares, pl. 40, fig. 81, who indicates that these tureens and stands are mentioned on at least nine occasions in the 1755 and 1756 Chelsea sale Catalogues in entries such as no. 90 from the First Day's sale, Monday, March 10, 1755: "Two exceedingly fine carps, and two fine dishes to ditto". A similar dish, from the Estate of Anita O'Keeffe Young, was sold at Sotheby's in New York, October 10, 1985, lot 80.
