  • A SINO-TIBETAN GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF AVALOKITESVARA PADMAPANI
  • Gilt bronze
  • height 10 1/4 in., 26 cm
finely cast seated in lalitasana, the elegant figure wearing a clinging dhoti and elaborate jeweled waist band and necklace, the scarf-draped arms entwined with long multi-stemmed lotus flanking the shoulders, the pendent right foot resting on an individual lotus issuing from the double-lotus pedestal with lotus stalks on her left and right shoulders, hands held in vitarkamudra and varadamudra, gestures of reasoning and gift conferring, the base open, the inside front engraved with the Chinese characters jiu shi wu (ninety-five)

Condition

One of the finials of the headdress has broken off. The central large finial of the headdress has been broken off and restored back on. There are a few minor chips throughout. Gilding is visible in some places and there may be gilding underneath the black surface. The bottom plate was opened and is missing.
