Catalogue Note

Brightly enamelled with a bold and intricate design of flowers, the present bowl belongs to a group of wares that continued in the Qianlong tradition. A closely related Jiaqing bowl in the Qing Court collection, and still in Beijing, is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. Porcelain with Cloisonné Enamel Decoration and Famille Rose Design, Hong Kong, 1999, pl. 181; another, from the British Rail Pension Fund, was sold in these rooms, 16th May 1989, lot 83; and a third example was sold in our London rooms, 14th May 2008, lot 718.

For the Qianlong prototype of this bowl, see one published in Ming Qing ciqi jianding, Hong Kong, 1993, pl. 485.
