Description

the elegantly tapering hexagonally facetted body rising from a short spreading foot to a tall slender neck with an everted rim, covered overall with a soft bluish-green glaze thinning to white at the edges, the base with an underglaze blue six-character seal mark

The overall condition is extremely good with the glossy and lustrous glaze brilliantly applied.

Catalogue Note

This vase is extremely rare for its elegant hexagonal form and no other related example appears to have been published. Compare a vase of similar form, but with tubular handles and decorated in enamels with rocks and bamboo in the style of an ink painting, with a Qianlong reign mark and of the period, from the Sir Percival David Collection in the British Museum, London, included in the travelling exhibition For the Imperial Court.
