Description
the long slightly curved metal blade cast with double grooves on both sides tapering to a pointed tip, a band of tear-drops cast along the spine of the blade leading to the tip, one end of the blade cast with a gilt-bronze panel enclosing a dragon in pursuit of a 'flaming pearl' amidst floral scrolls, the pierced gilt-metal sword guard decorated with stylised flowers and scrolling stems inlaid with coral stones, the stingray skin wrapped hilt surmounted by a gilt-metal pommel, the wooden scabbard later covered in black fabric with gilt-metal floral bands, forming the locket, chape and suspension brackets
Condition
Some of the hard stones have fallen out. There are still some coral beads left. The lost stones can be restored. The navy blue fabric on the scabbard is an old replacement with an old repair. The stingray skin veneer is slightly lifting and requires some re-gluing. However, the blade still retains it's original finish and is still very sharp, with only a few minor nicks to the blade. The gilding on the fittings are in very good condition and retain their gilding. Only the dragon on the top of the blade near the tip has some wear to the gilding due to the sliding of the blade in and out of the sheath.
The overall condition is very good.
