Description
the rectangular plaque surmounted by a pair of bats, finely carved with a stylised double gourd-shaped cartouche enclosing a winding vine bearing three gourds, the reverse with a four-character written in zhuan shu (seal script), the stone of even translucent white tone

Catalogue Note
The four characters inscribed might read ping shen san ji, playing a pun with the word ji (happiness) and ji (rank), which can be translated as may you advance in rank speedily and effortlessly. The plaque also incorporates symbols of bat (fu) and bottle gourds (hulu) expressing the auspicious phrase fulu shuangquan (may you have continuous good fortune and wealth).
