Description
- Lacquer, cloisonne enamel, jade, stained ivory, red coral (non endangered)
each panel with a central black lacquer ground inlaid with cloisonne enamel, jade, stained ivory and coral, two depicting a vase of flowers with a ruyi sceptre and the other two with lanterns supported by galloping horses on a lotus pond, below rectangular carved lacquer panels variously enclosing finger citron, pomegranate, peony and squirrels amongst grape vine and above panels of vases, all within a carved lacquer band of dragons and scrolling lotus
Condition
This four fold screen is in good condition, but does have some areas of repair to the ivory in the pierced lanterns and the cloud supports. There is also some paint loss to the lotus ponds below the horses. There is also some thinning to the areas of the black lacquer ground.
There is a crack to each lower corner of the black ground area to one of the panels with the cloisonne vase (3cm and 1cm).
There is a 2cm x 1cm area of damage to the lacquer to the top right area of the other panel with a cloisonne vase and a 21cm area of vertical restoration to the right edge of the top rectangular decorative panel. There is also an 8cm x 2cm area of restoration to the left border of this area.
The back of each panel is generally in good condition, but there are one or two more minor chips, some scratching and staining throughout.
