the globular bodies of each rising from a spreading foot to a waisted neck and flaring rim, painted with three circular panels enclosing en grisaille idyllic river landscape scenes, with figures on horseback crossing rocky promontories, and scholars in sampans, retreats and on rocky promontaries, with antiques and peony, prunus and chrysanthemum sprays on a dense white scroll blue ground, the domed covers similarly decorated and surmounted with Buddhist lion finials in biscuit

Condition

One vase has a 20cm area of restoration to the rim, where it has been damaged. There is also a 10cm long hairline crack running diagonally on the shoulder. The other vase has a 40cm area of restoration to the rim, where it has been damaged and an associated body crack that runs diagonally 55cm from this area down to the left of the vase. The one cover has a 12cm long area of restoration to the rim and a break to the neck and an damaged left ear of the lion finial. The other cover has a star crack to the centre of the underside and restoration to the body of the lion finial where it has been broken off the cover. There is also restoration to its face and left ear.
