Description

  • Wood
of rectangular form, carved to the front face of the box and cover with a pair of five-clawed scaly dragons in mutual pursuit of a flaming pearl, all amidst cloud and fire scrolls and above tumultuous foaming waves and within a key-fret band, the plain sides fitted with brass handles, the front fitted with a brass face plate etched with butterflies

Condition

This well patinated chest is in good overall condition with the exception of some age cracks to the cover (one extending the full width), loss to two small sections of the right hand dragons mane (2.5 and 3.5cm) on the front of the box, nibbles and two areas of loss (5 and 6cm., long) to the very edge of the key-fret band around the front of the box and light scratches and rubbing to the rich patina. The lockplates would benefit from a clean.
