Description

each of conical form, rising from a short straight foot to an everted rim, brightly enamelled around the exterior with three horned goats, forming a rebus for san yang kai tai, standing on a grassy area amid rocks and flowering peony, red-berried nandina and prunus, divided by a four-line calligraphic inscription and three iron-red seals

Condition

These finely enamelled bowls are in very good condition with the exception of a 2cm., hairline rim crack to one and minor glaze firing imperfections.

 A pair of closely related bowls in the Shanghai Museum, Shanghai, is illustrated in Selected Ceramics from the Collection of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Hu, Shanghai, 1989, pl. 89; and another bowl from the Yongzhitang collection, included in the exhibition Imperial Porcelain of Late Qing, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1983, cat. no. 49, was sold at Christie's Singapore, 30th March 1998, lot 250.
