- Rhino horn (diceros bicornis) and wood stand
the deep U-shaped cup of lotus form, born on a long curved stem profusely carved and pierced with the three friends of winter amidst landscape scenes, depicting scholars playing go, scholars conversing, deer recumbent and monkeys swinging amidst pine trees, all amidst blossoming peony, rockwork and fruiting gourd vine, the horn patinated to a rich toffee tone, carved wood stand
Condition
This large and impressive cup is in good overall condition with the exception of two restored breaks at the rim (8 x 2.5cm and 3.5 x 2.5cm), probable loss to a small section of carving (visible in the catalogue illustration) to the left of the three figures, and a 7cm., repaired vertical crack.
