Catalogue Note

Arad designed the 'Tom Vac' chair in 1997 following a commission from Domus magazine to design an installation for the Milan Furniture Fair. 100 examples were made in aluminium and stacked vertically in the centre of a busy intersection in the city centre. From this design the chair was then industrially produced in injection-moulded plastic and has since become one of his most popular designs. Almost a decade later Arad produced two more iterations of the design, the 'Thick Vac' and the current 'Tom Bloc',  each developed from two untrimmed 'Tom Vacs'.
