Description

  • A Byzantine Bronze Lamp in the Form of a Peacock
  • bronze
  • Length 6 in. 15.2 cm.
seated with feet drawn up underneath and finely engraved tail feathers tapering to the nozzle, with hinged palmette-shaped cover and Maltese cross suspended on the gracefully arched neck, the feathered crest missing.

Condition

Good except for the missing crest on the top of the head and some chips and holes/casting flaws in the nozzle area. The separately cast tenon underneath, for insertion into a candelabrum, is now attached inside the socket with glue.
