  • 13 1/4 by 13 1/4 in. 33.7 by 33.7 cm.
carved in relief with a  figure of an Amazon wearing a Phrygian cap cradling an axe(?) in her left arm, and reaching to left to the top end of a frame edge in the form of a bow.

Provenance

General Edouard Arsène Henri, marquis d'Aubigny (1832-1912), Château d'O, Mortrée, Normandy, acquired in North Africa in the 1880s during his military campaigns
by descent to the present owner

Condition

Surface much weathered, face abraded and nose chipped, a diagonal break runs through the body with chips along the break line (visible at right in the photo).
