Description

  • Height 10 1/4 in. 26 cm.
or perhaps Mithras or Paris, turned to his right, with parted lips, his unruly hair swept up above the forehead, surmounted by a Phrygian cap, and falling down over the nape of the neck, curls escaping before the ears.

Provenance

Dr. Dieter Wyss (1923-1994), Würzburg and Ibiza, acquired in Switzerland in the late 1960s
by descent to the present owner

Condition

Surface somewhat weathered with layer of light brownish incrustation overall, spotty white incrustation on proper right cheek and side of cap, tip of nose chipped and lips slightly abraded as shown, edge of proper left ear abraded, hair chipped above proper right ear in much the same way as above forehead, top of cap chipped and abraded, long shallow gash on top of cap.
