Condition
Very good condition overall with minor surface dirt at several places. Three hairtips restored in the back. Minor chips at several places, especially to the lower edge of the terra cotta.
The Suzanne surprise exists in terra cotta in Carpeaux's workshop since 1872,
ten terra cotta versions are mentionnend in the Carpeaux sales between 1872-1874. From 1875 on, the model is made in Carpeaux's workshop on the request of his descendants.
La Suzanne surprise a été fabriquée en 1872 dans l'atelier de Carpeaux. Dix versions en terre cuite sont mentionnées dans les ventes Carpeaux entre 1872 et 1874, et une terre cuite est mentionnée dans l'inventaire du 22 mars 1875. Après 1875, fabrication posthume par la famille.
