Catalogue Note
Joseph Chinard était un sculpteur néo-classique français (Lyon 1756 – 1813). Il vécut à Rome, où il s'inspira beaucoup de l'oeuvre de Canova ainsi que des antiques.
On ne connait qu'un seul portrait de Chinard réalisé de son vivant: une miniature de Soiron.
Chinard et Hennequin étaient tous deux originaires de Lyon et se sont probablement rencontrés à Rome, où ils ont séjourné dans la même maison de 1784 à 1789.
