Chinese School: Three China Trade Paintings 1840s

comprising: a view of Bocca Tigris; a view of the Parade Grounds in Gulangyu, Amoy; and another view titled on the reverse 'Heights of Canton' but probably a view of Gulangyu Island, Amoy.

All three works are done on textured paper with decoration around the painting, and all of them are mounted to the matte from the front. They are overall in good condition. Please note that at the present, these works are not archivally framed.

For a view of Bocca Tigris, see the University of Hong Kong, 2003, p. 102, no. 43. The Univeristy of Hong Kong, 1987, p. 90, no. 34, illustrates a painting of the Parade ground in Xiamen, circa 1844, and states that the British Consul had stationed in Gulangyu with troops, but they retreated in 1845. The English and French flags can be seen at the top of the hill in the present view.
