Catalogue Note
The painted panel, which closely follows its engraved source down to the detail of the cross-hatching, is taken from an engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi, after G. B. Cipriani. Howard and Ayers, Vol. II, pp. 376-7, no. 370 illustrate a plate together with the source print and note that the crest is that of the Martin family. The plate was in the Mottahedeh Collection, subsequently sold in these rooms, October 19, 2000, lot 308.
