- Ivory, mother of pearl, gold
with enamel plaques, one of young Werther, containing ivory slips inscribed with the days of the week 6.5cm. high, 3½in., together with a mother of pearl card case, probably English, early 20th century, with a plaque engraved with initials for Victor Christian William Cavendish, later 9th Duke of Devonshire, and another abalone example centred by a tortoiseshell panel, all three damaged (3)
Condition
Souvenir: some lifting to mounts; base mount and part of side mount lacking; hinge broken; small crack to ivory; the slips in excellent condition with some writing in pencil. First card case: several side panels and 2 face panels of mother-of-pearl lacking; slight closure gap. Second case: several panels lacking; side indented.
