fifteen three-switch plates, four two-switch plates and seventeen one-switch plates, with reeded decoration in Neo-Clasical taste; together with assorted components with a hand written label marked: Ornamental Brass switch plates formally at Devonshire House or 2 Carlton Gardens / They were cleaned up with the idea of using them at Hill Street, a few were actually fixed (36)

Ordered by Spencer Compton Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire (1833-1908) and his wife Louise von Alten (formerly Duchess of Manchester) as part of their refurbishment of Devonshire House and Chatsworth in the 1890's

Condition

The back plates are all in very good condition with only light signs of wear. There are 67 reeded apertures rings in total and 50 switches, some of which have lost their threads. Very decorative and fine quality.
