Autograph note signed ("A. Lincoln"), on a card (1 7/8 x 3 1/4 in.; 48 x 81 mm), [Washington,] 5 February 1862. Accompanied by carte-de-viste size albumen photographs of Lincoln and Charles Sumner, that of Lincoln on card with the imprint of E. Anthony.

On the day of the grand White House ball given by the First Lady, Lincoln schedules an appointment with the wife of the Senate's leading abolitionist: "I would be glad to see Mrs. Senator Sumner."
