- Four volumes of recipes of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries

the first containing culinary recipes, medical prescriptions and cleaning preparations, many of them recording their sources and whether "approved", over 330 pages plus index, 4to, [late eighteenth/early nineteenth century], contemporary vellum, gatherings loose, fraying and dust-staining; the second with manuscript entries and recipes from newspapers pasted-in or loosely inserted, over 100 pages, 4to, [late nineteenth century], contemporary calf-backed marbled boards, ownership inscription of Mabel A. Cumberland dated 1885, gatherings becoming loose, spine defective; the third with recipes at the front and medicinal remedies and cleaning preparations at the back, c.80 pages plus index and many blanks, 4to, [early nineteenth century], half morocco over marbled boards, binding worn; the fourth containing recipes, medical prescriptions and a few verses, c.60 pages, 4to, [mid-eighteenth century], contemporary vellum lettered on front cover "Letter Book", contemporary inscription on pastedown "Jn0 Hallmarke 1753", a few pages excised, wear to covers; each of the first three volumes housed in modern morocco-backed folder and slipcase
