Catalogue Note

First edition of this early recipe book. Messisbugo worked at the Este court in Ferrara as scalco (steward and carver) and was appointed Count Palatine by Charles V in 1533 for his services at court. He died the year before this work was published. He lists over three hundred recipes and also describes entertainments to take place during feasting, including Ariosto's play Cassaria.
