Catalogue Note
La villa Aldobrandini, située à Frascati, fut construite par Maderno et G. Fontana de 1598 à 1602 pour le Cardinal Aldobrandini, neveu de Clément VIII. L'intérieur est décoré de stucs et de peintures du Dominiquin.
Les planches gravées par Barrière représentent l'extérieur de la villa et ses célèbres jardins. Elles sont toutes signées du monogramme de l'artiste. Les planches 12 à 21 représentent des peintures intérieures et portent non seulement le monogramme de Barrière mais aussi le monogramme DZ ou, par deux fois : « Dominicus Zampier Bononiensis in. et pinxit ». C'est le vrai nom de Domenico Zampieri, dit il Domenichino, ou le Dominiquin.
