Acquired from Guy Holland.

Condition

All the chairs are in good solid condition. There are minor restorations throughout including four chairs having repaired breaks to their splats and two chairs with repaired splits to the seats.

Catalogue Note

The interlaced backrest on these hall chairs relates to designs by Robert Manwaring whose books published in the 1760's included The Cabinet and Chair-Maker's Real Friend and Companion, or the whole System of Chair Making made Plain and Easy;  containing upwards of one Hundred new and useful designs. A similar pair of chairs was sold at Sotheby's New York, 14th and 15th April 2000, lot 308.
