STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in good condition. There are no apparent areas of damage or loss of paint.
ULOTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals scattered minor retouching overall, particularly in the lower centre and to an area in the upper left.
FRAME
Held in a dark painted wooden frame with a gilded inner edge.

This portrait is said to have come from the celebrated collection of pictures formed by John Rushout 2nd Baron Northwick (1769-1859) which hung at Northwick Park and Thirlestaine, his two great houses in Gloucestershire (see O. Bradbury and N. Penny, 'The Picture Collecting of Lord Northwick', Burlington Magazine, vol CXLIV, August and October 2002).
