Description

  • A Greek Bronze Figure of a Warrior
  • Bronze
  • Height 5 5/8 in. 14.3 cm.
Striding on a rectangular base pierced for attachment, his right hand formerly holding a spear, the left hand a circular shield, and wearing greaves with stippled decoration around the knees, short tunic similarly ornamented, corselet engraved with a palmette flanked by volutes on the chest, and Corinthian helmet with high crest, the plumes of the crest and triangular ornament on the support engraved, his face with strong chin, full lips, aquiline nose, and large eyes with prominent lids, the hair falling in a long plait over the shoulders in back.
