Condition
In generally good condition. The canvas is not lined, slack on the stretcher. A vertical repair through the figure's chest, extending 7 1/2 inches up from bottom edge center. UV: Above mentioned repair flouresces, scattered spots to the face and in bottom right corner, two spots in background at upper left.

Catalogue Note
Cassatt mentioned to her first biographer, Achille Segard, that her acquaintance, Joseph-Gabriel Tourny took Edgar Degas to see this picture at the Salon of 1874. The latter commented on it, "C'est vrai. VoilĂ quelqu'un qui sent comme moi." ("It's true. Here is someone who feels as I do.")
