Condition

Very good condition overall for an object of this type; age cracks, nicks and scratches, wear and tear from handling throughout, minor loss on bottom end of one handle; weathered surface; area of abrasion with surface restoration on one side of the top above one leg; aged medium brown patina.

Catalogue Note

For a closely related Loï, Lower Ubangi, zoomorphic drum in the collection of the Musée Royal de l'Afrique Centrale, Tervuren see MRAC (1995: 279 and 393, fig. 250). The offered lot is extremely abstract in conception and has a finely developed patina from years of use.
