Good condition overall; wear consistent with age and use within the culture: minor nicks and scratches; small regular piercing through the bird's tail (original to the piece). Handwritten label "A. Lefèvre Cong[o] belge" in brown ink on bottom of base. Fine honey brown patina.

Les appui-tête Yaka, offrant la plus inventive variété de sujets, étaient associés, par leur iconographie, aux éléments de la pensée Yaka les identifiant à leur propriétaire (Bourgeois in Dewey, 1993 : 55). 
Respectant les contraintes de l'objet usuel, le sculpteur est parvenu à une œuvre parfaitement maîtrisée, jouant à la fois sur l'équilibre des formes et sur la dynamique de l'oiseau, concentrée dans la puissante flexion des pattes.
