the 6 5/8 inch silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals centering an aperture for a mock pendulum, two winding holes and a square date aperture all within pierced foliate strapwork spandrels centered by masks beneath a circular silvered plaque signed Sam: Cox Long / Acre / LONDON in the arch, the back plate engraved with a couple within scrolling foliage; five-pillar two-train movement with verge escapement, striking on the hour, the case with a caddy top surmounted by a brass bail handle and with flaming urn-form finials, the arched glazed door with pierced foliate gilt-metal spandrels, the molded plinth raised on brass bracket feet. Case formerly ebonized, lacking lock, movement and case associated.
Condition
Overall good restored condition; movement and case associated; the case once ebonized and now with a later finish; the domed top appears to have been broken at the very top and with restorations and possible replacements; age cracks to veneers of sides of cornice; one finial slightly loose; the front door lacking lock plate and now fitted with a catch to hold the door in place, later keyhole escutcheon; pins to hinges slightly loose; side panels with later glass panels to pierced sections and with age cracks to veneers; small chips and wear to corners of plinth; bracket feet replaced.
